Health and Nutrition

"Balanced" Plate

A “balanced” plate means eating from more than one food group. It’s about making 50% of your plate plant-based with fruits and vegetables, 25% with lean protein and another 25% with healthy grains. Look in your campus dining room for the daily “For Your Health” highlighted option or consider building your own plate using your favorites from the many choices available to you.

Special Diets, Food Allergies & Intolerances

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, it is important to learn about the choices you have when dining on campus and to ask questions when you have them.

Nutrition information for menu items, including common allergens, is available using the online nutrition calculator.

If you need additional assistance finding the right types of foods for you, please reach out to your Sodexo manager or chef. If you have dietary questions, please contact us so we can help! Sodexo has registered dieticians ready to answer your questions and help you make healthy choices.

Registered Dietitan Visits

Look for monthly theme visits by a Registered Dietitian. Each month brings a new topic: eating healthfully while away at school, vegetarian nutrition, and eating for fitness are presented in an informal, lively style.

Wellness Tip of the Month

Focus on fruit! At breakfast, top your cereal with bananas or try fruit mixed with our low-fat yogurt.

Food Source ImageLet's get local

We support our community by purchasing local produce during it's growing season.

It's not just produce that is local. Dairy, bread, florist for catered events, are just some of the other local businesses we support.

Did You Know ImageNutrient dense food can help fill you up?

They also give you the right mix of nutrients to keep you mentally and physically ready to be your best every day. These foods contain fewer calories than the more common calorie dense options.

Q: How can I make my dessert recipes healthier?

A: Well, you might want to stay away from recipes that start “first cream 2 sticks of butter with a cup of sugar.” Grain-based desserts (basically anything made with flour such as cookies and cakes) are the #1 source of solid fat in the American diet, and the #2 source of added sugars.

Q: I heard that snacks that combine protein and carbs are best. Since I’m always on the go, what are some good combinations that travel well?

A: Smart snacking can be an important strategy to keep your energy high when your schedule is hectic. It is important to keep healthy snacks on hand to avoid reaching for a convenient sugary or salty treat.
